Silicone is the second and only other material used in our Bento’s, and is what makes them leakproof! By far our's, and overwhelmingly voted by you as your favourite feature! Silicone is a non-toxic polymer mostly made from silica (sand) and has been unanimously certified as food-contact safe by regulatory bodies and researchers all over the globe. Whats best about it, it contains zero Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs).
Did you know not all silicone is the same? Here in Australia, the minimum testing standard's for silicone for use as a food-contact material is facilitated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in America. This didn't meet our standards, and so it shouldn't meet yours. Not when we know there is better out there...
We opted for Lebensmittel-, Bedarfsgegenstände-und Futtermittelgesetzbuch (LFGB) certification in Europe – otherwise referred to as Platinum Silicone.
The LFGB's testing is significantly more comprehensive and strict in comparison to the FDA. This gives us as the supplier, and by extension you as the consumer the confidence to know that you and your family are safe to use Happy Home silicone based product's as a food-contact material.
